Take in our music and art festivals, spring carnivals and outdoor sporting events in spring, summer, autumn or winter.
From now till Christmas, the lakes and rivers are freezing, as temperatures drop below 0º Celsius. Get out the toque and mittens!
Winter travel takes on new excitement when you drive our Northwest Territories ice roads. They really are made of ice in places – up to a metre, or a yard, thick. Built across tundra, lakes and rivers, they provide links to our remote, off-highway communities for a few weeks each winter. Northerners travel ice roads by car and truck, dogteam and snowmobile. Our outfitters will take you on a winter road tour, or you can rent a vehicle and plan your own ice road trip.
Before you travel our winter roads, be sure you're well prepared with cold-weather gear and emergency supplies. For up-to-date information about highway conditions, ice roads and ice-bridge crossings be sure to check with the NWT Department of Transportation.
