Canadian Championship Dog Derby

This prestigious 150 mile race is run in three 50 mile heats. It attracts mushers from across North America and is one of Canada's most difficult endurance races. In addition, there's a Heritage Race, several youth races, and a weight pull. 1-6 pm each day. Good viewing on Frame Lake, Back Bay and Yellowknife Bay (Dettah ice road).  

Caribou Carnival

Yellowknife's largest spring event. Enjoy sport demonstrations, children's activities, traditional Dene hand games, ice-sculpting contest, Ugly Truck & Dog contest, Cabane a Sucre tent, Great Slave Extreme Snowmobile Racing, fireworks and more. Watch the start of the Canadian Championship Diavik 150 dog race each day.

The other desert race is held annually in our wintry northern capital. Three tough endurance races over rock and ice and through the bush - 55 km Cold Foot Classic, 135 km K-Rock Ultra, 225 km Diamond Ultra. Choose foot & snowshoe or cross country skis, solo or team. Diamond prizes to first place finishers of K-Rock and Diamond Ultra.

The Snowking's Winter Festival runs through the month, with special events each weekend. Favourites include the Frozen Dog Film Festival, the Block 1000 rock and roll events, and Snowking's Royal Ball. All events held at the Snowking's Castle on Yellowknife Bay.
